Trips - Enjoy an exciting, yet relaxing day with friends. Day trips are scheduled frequently throughout the year to local attractions. Long distance trips are attempted twice a year to points of interest that match the preferences of the senior citizens. For more information click on our acclivities page. Classes - Create something special! Select from classes in basket-making, painting, crocheting, quilting, crafts, and many more. Recreation - Get active or simply take it easy! Activities include: exercise sessions, shuffleboard, walks, pool tables, television, card playing, group singing, jam sessions, piano playing, bingo, line dancing, and a variety of other opportunities. Special Events & Activities - Be a part of memory-making activities, such as the Senior Prom, dances, dinners, the Jubilee Fashion Show and more! Special weekly activities encourage seniors from area nursing homes to become a part of the center by including them in noon meals, bingo, singing, games and music therapy. Volunteers - Your resources are valuable to us and with our new facility we need your help now more than ever! Please lend your time and talents to assist us with any of the following endeavors: Day Care assistance, pancake breakfasts, teaching, singing, friendly visiting, and all other activities which occur at the center. Fill out our online form, stop by the office or call 815-626-7707. Eligibility - Whiteside County Senior Center is for all ages. Just some programs require you to be 60 or older. Example I&A and transportation are partially funded by NIAAA, and for their services you need to be over 60, All in all, there is no age limit. Anyone can come and enjoy our center. Hours - The Whiteside County Senior Center provides services Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Look for our articles in the "The Senior Echo", printed monthly in conjunction with The Daily Gazette and Sauk Valley Newspapers. Transportation - Daily scheduled transportation (8:30 am to 4:30 pm) provided to meal sites, medical needs, shopping, visiting, etc. This service is provided to the Twin Cities, rural Albany, Erie, Fulton, Morrison, Fenton, Tampico, Deer Grove, and Coleta areas. Information & Assistance - Our trained professionals are available to answer questions regarding community, state, and federal resources such as Social Security, Circuit Breaker, Medicare, housing and other senior issues. Outreach - Home visits by staff to older persons who are homebound are a key component of our outreach program. Staff will take the time to inform persons of available services and benefit programs, as well as provide help with Circuit Breaker, medical papers, and public housing. For more information visit our outreach programs page and our Circuit Breaker page. Meal Sites - Delicious home-cooked meals prepared at our site and served starting at 11:45am to 12:30pm. All meals are nutritionally well-balanced and are available for "A FREE WILL DONATION OF $2.50 TO COVER COSTS". For more information visit our Meal Sites page. Time Was Adult Day Care - A protective environment for your loved one. The atmosphere, transportation, breakfast, and noon meal not only give the senior a day away from home, but additionally allows the care giver an opportunity to relieve stress and accomplish other tasks.
